Still, there have been issues over the years, like when an interpreter had summarized a client’s words rather than translating them literally. Even small changes in phrasing can alter the meaning of testimony in ways that matter. Because I speak Spanish fluently, I’ve been able to recognize and correct those errors immediately. In one instance, we even had to stop a deposition and reschedule it with a different interpreter to make sure my client’s statements were accurately represented.
